In 2023, the Frankfurt Book Fair will celebrate its 75th anniversary. By far the biggest highlight was the largest book tower in history, which can be seen on a smartphone using augmented reality technology. The unusual campaign is a gift from ZAUBAR.
ZAUBAR has given Messe Frankfurt a very special gift to mark its anniversary: The Messeturm, one of the most famous skyscrapers in the Main metropolis, will be transformed into an giant stack of books using AI-based augmented reality technology - viewed through the cameras of smartphones or tablets. Visitors to the book fair can take a photo of themselves with the book skyscraper in the 5th dimension and share their extraordinary memory of a very special book fair on social media.
From October 18 to 22, every visitor to the Frankfurt Book Fair could access the experience on the website www.booktower75.com. Anyone who shared their photo with the hashtag #booktower75 also had the chance to win a stack of the latest new releases.
"With the giant book tower, we want to make the relevance of the book medium and reading obvious to everyone, especially in times of artificial intelligence. Technology already offers incredible possibilities for creative staging - but real ideas and norm-breaking books are still only developed and written by humans. The virtual book tower is intended to symbolize this." says ZAUBAR co-founder and political science graduate Anne-Sophie Panzer about the campaign. "We hope that many visitors to the fair will carry this symbol into the world and thus promote reading and the distribution of creative literature in the future." adds Stefan Marx, ZAUBAR co-founder and Chief Executive Officer.
The largest international gathering in the publishing industry was opened on Tuesday, October 17th by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar. Anyone who was at the book fair from 18 to 22 October could experience the event on site via www.booktower75.com.
